Description

Claims (10)
- 電気泳動ディスプレイであって、
懸濁流体に懸濁する複数の帯電粒子を有する電気泳動媒体と、
該電気泳動媒体の向かい合う側に配置された2個の電極であって、該電極の少なくとも1個は、光透過性で、観測者が視覚表面を通して該ディスプレイを見ることができる該視覚表面を形成する、2個の電極と
を備え、
該ディスプレイは、閉鎖光学状態と開放光学状態を有し、該閉鎖光学状態において、該帯電粒子は実質的に該視覚表面全体に広がり、その結果、光は該電気泳動媒体を通過し得なく、該開放光学状態において、該電気泳動粒子は、該電極間に延びる連鎖を形成し、その結果、光は該電気泳動媒体を通過し得、
該ディスプレイは、該電極と該電気泳動媒体との間に配置された絶縁層を特徴とし、ここで、該帯電粒子および該懸濁流体は複数のカプセル内に閉じ込められ、該カプセルは、ポリマーバインダー内に保持され、且つここで、該絶縁層の少なくとも1個は、該カプセルのバインダーおよび/または壁から構成される、電気泳動ディスプレイ。 - 前記帯電粒子の少なくとも一部は導電性である、請求項1に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記導電性粒子はカーボンブラックを備える、請求項2に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記絶縁層の少なくとも1個は、109〜1011Ωcmの体積抵抗率を有する、請求項1に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記視覚表面から離れた前記絶縁層は接着層で形成される、請求項1に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記2個の電極に電圧を印加する電圧供給手段であって、該電圧供給手段は、前記ディスプレイを開放光学状態に駆動するのに有効な高周波数交流電圧と、前記ディスプレイを閉鎖光学状態に駆動するのに有効な低周波数交流または直流電圧との双方を供給するようにアレンジされる、電圧供給手段をさらに備える、請求項1に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記高周波数交流電圧は、200〜1000Hzの範囲の周波数を有し、前記低周波数交流または直流電圧は、0〜50Hzの範囲の周波数を有する、請求項6に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記懸濁流体は、該懸濁流体中で、該懸濁流体において固有粘性ηを有するポリマーを溶解または分散し、該ポリマーは、該懸濁流体においてイオン性またはイオン化グループが実質的に無く、該ポリマーは0.5η−1〜2.0η−1の濃度で該懸濁流体において存在する、請求項1に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記ポリマーは、ポリイソブチレンである、請求項8に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 複数のピクセルを有する電気泳動ディスプレイであって、該ディスプレイは、
懸濁流体中に懸濁する複数の帯電粒子を有する電気泳動媒体と、
該電気泳動媒体の向かい合う側に配置された電極であって、該電極の少なくとも1個は光透過性で、該観測者が視覚表面を通して該ディスプレイを見ることができる該視覚表面を形成する電極と
を備え、
該ディスプレイの各ピクセルは、閉鎖光学状態と開放光学状態を有し、閉鎖光学状態において、該帯電粒子が該ピクセルの該視覚表面の実質的に全体に広がり、その結果、光は該電気泳動媒体を通過し得なく、該開放光学状態では、該電気泳動粒子が該ピクセルの該電極間に延びる連鎖を形成し、その結果、光は該ピクセルを通過し得、
観測者によって知覚される該ディスプレイの色は、ディスプレイの該種々のピクセルの該開放および閉鎖状態を変化することによって変動され得るように、該観測者に見えるように、該ディスプレイに隣接して配置されるカラーアレイをさらに備え;そして
該電極と該電気泳動媒体との間に配置された絶縁層をさらに備え、
ここで、該帯電粒子および前記懸濁流体は複数のカプセル内に閉じ込められ、そして該カプセルは、ポリマーバインダー内に保持され、且つここで、該絶縁層の少なくとも1個は、該カプセルのバインダーおよび/または壁から構成される、ディスプレイ。
