Abstract
Description
上記に指摘されているように、本発明は、下記に主として別々に説明される二つの主要な局面を有する。しかし、単体のディスプレイは、本発明の複数の局面を利用し得ること、たとえば、本発明のカラーアレイディスプレイもまた、本発明の絶縁層局面に一致した絶縁層を含み得ることを理解されるべきである。
Claims (16)
- 電気泳動ディスプレイ(100;300;400)であって、
懸濁流体(112、312)に懸濁する複数の帯電粒子(110;310)を有する電気泳動媒体と、
該電気泳動媒体の向かい合う側に配置された2個の電極(106、108;306R、306G、306B、308)であって、該電極(108;308)の少なくとも1個は、光透過性で、観測者が視覚表面を通して該ディスプレイ(100;300;400)を見得る該視覚表面を形成する、2個の電極と
を備え、
該ディスプレイ(100;300;400)は、閉鎖光学状態と開放光学状態を有し、該閉鎖光学状態において、該帯電粒子(110、310)は実質的に該視覚表面全体に広がり、その結果、光は該電気泳動媒体を通過し得なく、該開放光学状態において、該電気泳動粒子(110;310)は、該電極(106、108;306R、306G、308)間に延びる連鎖を形成し、その結果、光は該電気泳動媒体を通過し得、
該ディスプレイは、該電極(106、108;306R、306G、306B、308)と該電気泳動媒体との間に配置された絶縁層(114、116;314、316)、を特徴とする、電気泳動ディスプレイ。 - 前記帯電粒子(110;310)の少なくとも一部は導電性である、請求項1に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記導電性粒子(110;310)はカーボンブラックを備える、請求項2に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記絶縁層(114、116;314、316)の少なくとも1個は、109〜1011Ωcmの体積抵抗率を有する、請求項1に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記視覚表面から離れた前記絶縁層(114;314)は接着層で形成される、請求項1に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記帯電粒子および前記懸濁流体は複数のカプセル内に閉じ込められる、請求項1に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記カプセルは、ポリマーバインダー内に保持される、請求項6に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記絶縁層の少なくとも1個は、前記カプセルのバインダーおよび/または壁から構成される、請求項7に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記帯電粒子および前記懸濁流体は、ポリマーバインダーを備える前記連続相内に保持される複数のディスクリートな液滴として存在する、請求項1に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記連続相は、帯電粒子および懸濁流体が閉じ込められる複数のセルを分離する壁を形成する、請求項9に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記2個の電極に電圧を印加する電圧供給手段であって、該電圧供給手段は、前記ディスプレイを開放光学状態に駆動するのに有効な高周波数交流電圧と、前記ディスプレイを閉鎖光学状態に駆動するのに有効な低周波数交流または直流電圧との双方を供給するようにアレンジされる、電圧供給手段をさらに備える、請求項1に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記高周波数交流電圧は、200〜1000Hzの範囲の周波数を有し、前記低周波数交流または直流電圧は、0〜50Hzの範囲の周波数を有する、請求項11に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記電圧供給手段は、少なくとも1個の中間周波数交流電圧を供給するようにさらにアレンジされ、該中間周波数交流電圧は、該高周波数交流電圧と該低周波数交流または直流電圧との中間の周波数電圧を有し、該中間周波数交流電圧は、前記ディスプレイを前記開放光学状態と前記閉鎖光学状態との中間のグレー状態に駆動するに有効である、請求項11に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記懸濁流体(112;312)は、該懸濁流体中で、該懸濁流体において固有粘性ηを有するポリマーを溶解または分散し、該ポリマーは、該懸濁流体においてイオン性またはイオン化グループが実質的に無く、該ポリマーは0.5η−1〜2.0η−1の濃度で該懸濁流体において存在する、請求項1に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 前記ポリマーは、ポリイソブチレンである、請求項14に記載の電気泳動ディスプレイ。
- 複数のピクセルを有する電気泳動ディスプレイ(300;400)であって、該ディスプレイは、
懸濁流体(312)中に懸濁する複数の帯電粒子(310)有する電気泳動媒体と、
該電気泳動媒体の向かい合う側に配置された電極(306R、306G、306B,308)であって、該電極(308)の少なくとも1個は光透過性で、該観測者が視覚表面を通して該ディスプレイを見る視覚表面を形成する電極と
を備え、
該ディスプレイの各ピクセルは、閉鎖光学状態と開放光学状態を有し、閉鎖光学状態において、該帯電粒子(310)が該ピクセルの該視覚表面の実質的に全体に広がり、その結果、光は該電気泳動媒体を通過し得なく、該開放光学状態では、該電気泳動粒子(310)が該ピクセルの該電極間(306R、306G、306B、308)に延びる連鎖を形成し、その結果、光は該ピクセルを通過し得、
観測者によって知覚される該ディスプレイの色は、ディスプレイの該種々のピクセルの該開放および閉鎖状態を変化することによって変動され得るように、該観測者に見えるように、該ディスプレイに隣接して配置されるカラーアレイ(304R、304G、304B;402R、402G、402B)をさらに備える、ディスプレイ。
