Abstract

938,467. Controlling change-speed gearing. E. DELETAILLE. Aug. 28, 1962 [Aug. 30, 1961], No. 32997/62. Class 80 (2). A sliding gear selector mechanism comprises a main shaft 1 carrying a gear 4 slidden axially from a neutral position to engage either a gear 9 or a gear 12 on secondary shafts 2, 3 rigid with arms 15, 16, carrying selector forks 17, 18 respectively, rotation of the shaft 1 rotating the selected gear to move the appropriate selector fork while arcuate notched discs 10, 13, rigid respectively with the gears 9, 12 are engaged by the gear 4 to lock the unselected gear in neutral position. Unwanted rotary movement of the gear 4 is prevented by a spring detent 5 which allows free axial movement when the two discs 10, 13 have aligned notches to permit axial movement of the gear 4. The gear lever 21 is bolted to a fork 26, pivoted at 29 on a sleeve 30, to allow a pin 23 in the fork to engage a radial fork 22 rigid with the main shaft 1 for axial movement of that shaft, rotary movement being transmitted by the engaging sides of the two forks.
