Abstract

1308515 Variable speed gearing; clutches SCHUBERT & SALZER MASCHINENFABRIK AG 3 March 1970 [5 March 1969] 10097/70 Headings F2C and F2D A variable ratio transmission comprises at st two pairs of meshing wheels, one wheel, 420 ... 425, of each pair being freely rotatable on a common shaft 200, 220 and selectively lockable to the shaft for rotation therewith according to the position relative to the shaft to which a coaxial spindle 1100, 110 is rotated. In Fig. 5 the spindle 100 is first moved axially in direction L, rotated as required, and moved back axially in direction K when a selected pivot arm 300<SP>1</SP> engages a tang 202 and a recess 201 to project from the shaft and engage a keyway 444 in a gear 44, each gear having a tang and recess at a different angular position in the shaft 200. In Figs. 1 to 3 (not shown) the arms 300 are replaced by pairs of curved leaf springs (12) which selectively engage diametrically opposite pairs of segments (30) each with a tang (32) and movable radially in a recess to be urged outwardly to frictionally engage the smooth bore of its wheel. In Fig. 6, each of three pairs of keys 330, 330<SP>1</SP> in circumferentially spaced slots in the shaft 220 is selectively engaged by diametral pairs of tangs 112 on the spindle 110 rotated by a wheel 119 when a clutch 118 is released, and then moved axially by lever 116 out of its annular recesses 525 ... 528 to engage a keyway 351 of an adjacent gear. The gears 420 ... 425 each have an annular recess 525 ... 528 to allow the keys to have a neutral position between the gears.
