652,515. Operating change-speed gearing. SOC. ANON. DES ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTION DE JAMBES NAMUR, ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS THEOPHILE FINET. Nov. 10, 1948, No. 29248. Convention date, Aug. 12. [Class 80(ii)] Control mechanism for a changespeed gear comprises selector forks 25, 37, Figs. 3, 4 moved by pins thereon engaging cam grooves in a plate 41 normally held against rotation by a catch 45 which co-operates with notches 44, 44<SP>1</SP>, 44<SP>11</SP>, 44<SP>111</SP> and 44<SP>1111</SP> corresponding to first, neutral, second, third and fourth gears respectively but which is released by a cable 106 when the main clutch is disengaged. A shaft 47 carrying a preselector control lever 46 has secured thereto a pair of discs 56, 80, Figs. 3, 9, 10, between which are arranged a pair of oppositely - wound initially - stressed spiral springs 57, 78, the inner ends of which are secured to the discs while their outer ends are secured to a pair of arms 60, 69 which cooperate with abutments 61, 86 on the discs and which are loose on, but co-operate with abutments 77, 74 on a shaft 64 connected to the plate 41. Thus, as the lever 46 is moved from one gear position to another, one of the two springs is further stressed while the tension of the other spring remains unchanged, the further stressed spring acting to move the cam plate 41 to a position corresponding with the new position of the lever 46 immediately the catch 45 is released upon disengagement of the main clutch. A second abutment 62 on the disc 56 prevents the lever 46 from being moved through two stages in changing up, while not preventing such movement in changing down. Alternatively, the discs 56, 80 may be secured to the shaft box, the arms 60, 69 then co-operating with abutments on the shaft 47. The output member of the gear is a sleeve loose on the input shaft 11 and carrying a sprocket wheel. The main clutch is disengaged by a rod extending through the shaft 11 and operated through a thrust bearing by a rod 13 actuated by a fork 104 which is turned by an arm 102 operated by a cable 100. The cable 106 controlling the catch 45 is connected to an arm 105 of the fork 104.
