Abstract

909,135. Winch dyeing apparatus. COURTAULDS Ltd. Dec. 18, 1959 [Dec. 19, 1958], No. 41000/58. Class 15(1). In a winch dyeing machine having guide bars in which a plurality of textile ropes is dyed simultaneously, each guide bar comprises a spring-loaded finger pivoted at one end on the machine so that the finger is urged against one of two supports, the first support being capable of holding the finger against the action of the spring in a position separating adjacent ropes, and the second support capable of holding the finger against the action of the spring in a position substantially parallel to the path of the ropes. As shown in the Figure accompanying the Provisional Specification a finger 1 mounted on a pivot 2 is secured at a point 3 to one end of an extended spring 4 the other end of which is held at a point 5 of the machine 6. Finger I rests on a support 7 and is urged on to support 7 by spring 4. Movement of textile ropes either side of finger 1 in the direction of the arrow is preferably insufficient to overcome the force of spring 4. Entangled ropes however preferably cause finger 1 to describe an arc and bring it into contact with support 8 thereby completing an alarm circuit 9. Alternatively finger 1 in contact with support 8 may operate a brake so that damage to the textile ropes is averted. The spring may be attached at one end to the finger and at the other to the machine such that it is extended to its greatest extent when the finger is not in contact with either support,. Alternatively the spring may be coaxially contained in a hollow finger with the other end of the spring riding on a cam so that the spring is always under compression but is most compressed when the finger contacts neither support.
