A device for severing a thread when the tension in it reaches a predetermined value comprises a guide 1 mounted to pivot against the action of a spring 2 under increased tension to carry the thread into engagement with a cutter 3. The thread may be one of a number being wound on a warp beam which it is undesirable to stretch, and the device may be associated with a stop motion.
