895,744. Expanding-wheel gear. COOPER BROS. (STOCKPORT) Ltd. Aug. 6, 1959 [Aug. 9, 1958], No. 25651/58. Class 80 (2). Expanding-pulley gearing, described as applied to a drilling-machine, comprises a driving pulley 14 on a motor shaft 12 connected by a V-belt 21 to a countershaft double pulley 19 in turn connected by a V-belt 20 to a pulley 13 on a drill spindle 11, operation of a handle 18 and a ratio selecting lever 16 moving the countershaft pulley 19 in the plane of the driving and driven pulleys to vary the ratio, the ratio-selecting lever pivoting on a stud 15 and having an inclined cam slot 15b coacting with a fixed pin 15a so that as the lever turns, it slides axially along its pivot stud, an adjustable stop 31 on a pointer 24 coacting with an abutment 30 on the hub 16a of the selecting lever and being turned by the axial movement of the latter so that a frame 26 on the pointer is moved over a scale 28 outside a casing 22 surrounding the gear to indicate the selected ratio.
