Abstract
873,899. Automatic feed-rate control systems. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 15, 1958 [March 1, 1957], No. 6947/57. Class 38 (4). The feed rate of powder from a hopper 1 to a vat V is controlled by continuously sensing at 8 the weight of material on an endless conveyer 5, and correspondingly varying the core position of a reactor 10 in an A.C. circuit feeding the control winding 12 of amplidyne generator 14. The output of the amplidyne drives a reversible motor 15 which adjusts the position of a shutter 4 to keep the mass flow rate from the hopper constant. In a modification the shutter 4 is dispensed with and the hopper has a lower opening spaced above a horizontal turntable which receives the powder and feeds it to the conveyer 5, the motor 15 moving the hopper vertically to adjust the gap between them and hence the feed rate. Instead of the amplidyne 14 a magnetic amplifier may be used. Specifications 822,743, 824,788 and 867,865 are referred to.
