Abstract
672,980. Automatic weight-control systems. SIMON, W. G. May 8, 1950 [May 13, 1949], No. 12757/49. Class 38 (iv). The weight of material delivered from a hopper on to a conveyer belt is regulated by a shutter 8 moved by a reversible motor 9 controlled by contacts 16, 17, 18 which are closed by the displacement of a weigh beam 12 connected to a roller 14 beneath the conveyer and therefore sensitive to the weight of material on the conveyer. The contacts are also closed periodically by a cam 29, which, via lever 26, bell-crank 23, and rod 19 deflects the weight-beam sufficiently to close the contacts. The direction of deflection is determined by a blade forming part of the bell-crank 23, Fig. 3 (not shown), which passes to one side or the other of a pin secured to the rod 19 according to the position of that rod. In a modification Fig. 5 (not shown), the material is fed to the conveyer by a screw driven by a variable speed motor, the motor speed being controlled by the weight beam as above. In a further modification, the mechanical contact closing arrangement is replaced by an electrical timing device in circuit with contacts 16, 17, 18 and arranged so that correction only takes place during a period controlled by the timing device.
