Abstract

1,016,092. Jigging conveyers; pneumatic conveyers. CORNING GLASS WORKS. Sept. 4, 1963 [Sept. 13, 1962], No. 34977/63. Heading B8A. In a method of feeding powder 54, Fig. 1, from pressurized hopper 24 for pneumatic conveyance in a pipeline 52, a vibratory helical track 38 is arranged within the hopper 24 for feeding the material at a controlled rate to the outlet 46 leading to the pipeline 52. Air is continuously supplied to the hopper through a pipeline 40, 42. The hollow cylinder 36 supporting the track 38 is vibrated by an electromagnet 16 through an armature block 18 and has apertures 55 permitting the passing of material. The amount of material may be controlled by a wiper 58, Fig. 2 (not shown), placed across the track 38 just before the outlet 46. In a modification the upper end of the cylinder 36, Fig. 5 (not shown), carries a trough 60 from which material falls over the sides to control the quantity.
