859,596. Cooling and purifying charge. WARMETECHNISCHE ANLAGEN G.m.b.H. FUR. Jan. 22, 1958 [Jan. 30, 1957], No. 2186/58. Class 7(2). Combustion air delivered by a turbocharger to an inlet 18, Fig. 1, passes radially through annular filter sections 20 supported by rings 23 in a pipe 19, from a slot 24, Fig. 2, or slots of which the air then passes to individual cylinder connections 13 over pipes or coils 5 through which cooling water circulates between entry and exit header tanks 9, 11 respectively. Flushing and drain connections 16, 17 are provided. One header plate 6 is mounted in a gland 7 to allow thermal expansion. The pipes 5 may be laterally finned. The connections 13 may be radial or tangential. In a modification, Fig. 3, there is a tapered filter 48, which may be in sections axially, and the air passes to cylinder connections 33 by being forced as shown to axially traverse.regularly circumferentially spaced pipes 38 which may be longitudinally finned and through which cooling water is forced to pass, by a partition (not shown) in the header tank 42, from an entry 43 to the header tank 45 and back to an exit 44. In both embodiments, the filter and cooling water pipe assembly are withdrawable from the main casing.
