Abstract

999,788. Centrifugal separators. H. W. SHARP Ltd. Dec. 12, 1962 [Dec. 13, 1961], No. 44614/61. Heading B2P. A spark arrester for use on an I.C. engine exhaust pipe comprises a casing 1 having inlet and outlet ducts 5, 2 and containing a number of stationary baffle members 13 spaced from one another and from the ducts and each having a plurality of radial, helically-twisted, whirlproducing blades, the blades of one member being offset relatively to those of adjacent members. The members 13 may be integral with, or detachably mounted in, a perforated sleeve 11 spaced from the wall of the casing by an annular gap 12 which serves as a trap for particles which may pass through the perforations. The pipe 5 extends from an end cap 3 to which the casing 1 is detachably secured to facilitate cleaning.
