Abstract
704,124. Cooling cylinders. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Jan. 28. 1952 [Feb. 27. 1951], No. 2281/52. Class 7(2) In an engine liquid cooling-system in which a coolant is conducted through a cooling chamber 2, Fig. 1, surrounding a cylinder wall and wherein the chamber comprises a main cooling space 4 near the cylinder head and having means, such as pipes 10 and 15, for the supply and withdrawal of all the coolant for the chamber 2, there is provided an auxiliary cooling space 6 around the lower part of the cylinder liner that communicates with the space 4 only through an annular constricted aperture 7. Coolant enters the space 4 by means of a passage 11 and a conduit 12, Fig. 2, in the cooling jacket 8 and flows through a conduit 13, a passage 14 and the pipe 15, Fig. 1, into the cylinder head 17; the conduits 12 and 13 are formed in a fitting 9, Fig. 2, by a partition 19. In a modification, the inlet and outlet passages and conduits may be located at diametrically opposite points.
