Abstract
840,259. Flexible diaphragm compressors. GREER HYDRAULICS Inc. Sept. 4, 1958, No. 28474/58. Class 8(1). A hydraulically actuated flexible diaphragm compressor 26 drawing from a high pressure gas cylinder 60 through a duct 58, one side of a conventional photo-comparator unit 48, a duct 51 having a non-return valve 52 and a duct 43 and discharging also through said duct 43, a non-return valved duct 45, the other side of the comparator 48 and a duct 64 leading to a gas cylinder 70 to be charged to a pressure higher than that of cylinder 60 is supplied with working liquid by a motor-driven pump 10 discharging through a duct 22 having a non- return valve 23 and leading to the liquid inlet port 25 of the compressor, and drawing from a reservoir 17 having a connection 34 to the liqiud inlet 25 provided with a solenoid valve 37 which is closed during the gas compression stroke and is opened at the beginning of the gas intake stroke by a switch 41 actuated by a float 39 within the reservoir 17. In the event of oil leaking past the diaphragm the resulting turbidity of the compressed gas at one side of the unit 48 composed with the clear gas at the other results in closing a solenoid valve 66 in the compressed gas outlet duct 64.
