Abstract

839,026. Swash plate pumps. ROTOL Ltd. Sept. 10, 1958 [Sept. 11, 1957], No. 28709/57. Class 102(1). A swash plate pump is fed by a centrifugal pump, the flow from the centrifugal pump outlet to the swash plate pump inlet being controlled by a throttle valve 38 subjected at one end to the load of springs 37 and at the other to the action of a piston 51 subjected to the outlet pressure of the swash plate pump. The piston 51 also functions as a relief valve which at a given pressure connects the swash plate pump outlet 33 via ducts 50, 58 to the swash plate chamber 54 connected via a spring-loaded valve 60 to the supply tank. A throttle passage 46 through the valve 38 ensures a small flow through the valve after it closes. In a modification, the throttle passage is formed as a further port in the valve cylinder and a relief valve across the centrifugal pump is arranged to open when the valve 38 closes. In further modifications, the valve 38 is additionally subjected in one direction to the pressure at the inlet to the centrifugal pump and in the other to the outlet from the centrifugal pump.
