Class 120(2) In order to wind back from a filled to an empty bobbin mounted in a spinning position a "tag end" of yarn, the lower flange of the empty bobbin has a peripheral groove for retaining yarn and a shroud is provided which rotates with the bobbin and has an upper edge that lies in the path of the yarn being wound back. Yarn wound from a bobbin 18 passes over a guide 28 and across the edge of a shroud 54 into a groove 58 in the rotating bobbin. The shroud 54 rotates with the bobbin carrier 14 and the yarn extending over its edge drops into notches 56 and rides up their sloping sides until the yarn is severed, when rotation of the bobbin causes the end of yarn to strike the vertical side of one of the notches 56 to tighten the yarn wound in the groove 54. A stationary post may be mounted near the rotating bobbin so that the severed yarn end will strike it and assist the tightening of the yarn turns. The cross sections of the grooves 54 may be of a variety of forms as described in Specification 804,793 and the shroud may shaped otherwise than as shown. Specification 804,791 also is referred to.
