APPARATUS FOR WINDING UNDRAWN THREAD MATERIAL ONTO A WASTE YARN TAKE-UP MEMBER OF A DRAW-TWISTING SPINDLE BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a new and improved construction of apparatus for winding not normally drawn thread material onto a waste yarn take-up member of a draw-twisting spindle.
The prior art is familiar with the technique of winding not normally drawn or undrawn thread material, produced while draw-twisting machines are started-up and slowed-down to stoppage, in the form of waste material onto a waste yarn take-up member, such as a waste spool arranged below a tube placed on the spindle and coaxially therewith. For the purpose of carrying out the winding operation of the thread material onto the waste spool the ring holder carrying the twisting ring is lowered to a position beneath its normal operating position and in order to wind the waste material this ring holder is then held stationarily in this position with regard to the waste spool. The not normally drawn material is then wound onto the waste spool in a disorderly arrangement owing to the fact that the ring holder is stationarily retained. Especially in those instances where large quantities of waste material are wound onto the waste spool does there arise the disadvantage that owing to the high rotational speed of the spindle waste material which protrudes under the influence of the centrifugal forces forms so-called suns on the waste spool which can, in turn, result indisturbances or faulty operation. Furthermore, owing to the disorderly winding of the waste material there is produced such thread tangles that the waste material can not be subsequently removed from the waste spool simply by unwinding such waste material, rather special devices or tools are necessary to achieve this purpose. Furthermore, since the ring holder is stationarily retained the waste material wound onto the waste spool also forms accumulations at one locality, exhausting the take-up capacity of the waste spool within a very short period of time owing to the formation of a thick and narrow ring of threads, requiring frequent removal of the waste material.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Hence, it should be apparent from the foregoing that a real need still exists in the art for apparatus for winding not normally drawn thread material onto a waste yarn take-up member of a draw-twisting spindle in a manner not associated with the aforementioned shortcomings and drawbacks of the prior art constructions. Accordingly, it is a primary objective of the present invention to provide a new and improved construction of apparatus for winding not normally drawn thread material onto a waste yarn take-up member of a drawtwisting spindle in a manner effectively eliminating the previously explained drawbacks of the prior art constructions and reliably fulfilling the existing need in the art.
Another significant object of the present invention is directed to the provision of improved apparatus of the mentioned type which enables overcoming the disadvantages of the state-of-the-art equipment used for winding waste material onto a waste yarn take-up member. and wherein the waste material can be taken-up in such a manner that it can be subsequently easily removed from the waste yarn take-up member.
A further significant object of the present invention relates to a novel construction of apparatus for winding not normally drawn thread material onto a waste yarn take-up member in such a manner that the take-up capacity of the waste yarn take-up member can be fully utilized, avoiding the necessity of frequent removal of the waste material as heretofore required in the prior art.
Yet a further significant object of the present invention relates to a novel construction of apparatus for winding not normally drawn thread material onto a waste yarn take-up member wherein the thread can be traversed and wound onto the waste yarn take-up member in a regular or orderly arrangement without the use of any additional traversing motion control for the traveller ring rail.
A further object of this invention relates to a novel construction of apparatus for winding not normally drawn thread material onto a waste yarn take-up member of a draw-twisting spindle which is extremely simple in construction, requires no moving parts, therefore improving the functionality of the equipment in terms of minimizing the possibility of breakdown of the equipment or down time owing to maintenance or servicing work.
Now, in order to implement these and still further objects of the invention, which will become more readily apparent as the description proceeds, the inventive apparatus for winding not normally drawn thread material onto a waste yarn take-up member of a draw-twisting spindle comprises a waste yarn take-up member arranged beneath a tube placed upon a spindle. There is also provided a twisting ring which can be lowered into a position which is stationary with respect to the waste yarn take-up member. According to the invention a stationary guide member for the thread to be wound onto the waste yarn take-up member is arranged beneath the upper extent or upper boundary region of the waste yarn take-up member. This stationary guide member extends upwardly above the base of the waste yarn take-up member and externally thereof along a portion of the circumference of such waste yarn take-up member.
The waste yarn take-up member can be a waste spool, a waste cone or cylinder or even a portion of the spindle itself. The guide member, as viewed in top view, can be curved, for instance arranged concentrically around the waste yarn take-up member. However, this guide member can also be constructed so as to be linear or straight-lined and can extend outside of the circumference of the waste yarn take-up member in parallelism with a tangent of such waste yarn take-up member. The guide member can comprise an ascending thread guide portion and a thread guide section extending in a plane which is parallel to a plane taken through the base of the waste yarn take-up member or also can be disposed in a plane which is inclined with regard to such base plane. The guide member can be formed by a wire or the upper edge or rim of a plate member. According to one embodiment of the invention as disclosed herein this guide member can be designed so as to have ascending and descending portions.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Describing now the drawings, and referring initially to the arrangement depicted in FIG. 1 it is to be understood that there is illustrated therein a stationary spindle rail 1 at which there is arranged a spindle 2. A whorl 3 equipped with a lower flange 4 and an upper flange 5 serves to place the spindle 2 into rotation about its longitudinal or lengthwise axis A. The spindle rail 1 extends along a non-illustrated draw-twisting machine and is only fractionally shown for one twisting location or position, likewise not depicted in the drawing for the purpose of preserving clarity in illustration. Now above the upper flange 5 of the whorl 3 and beneath a tube 6 placed upon the spindle 2 there is fixed on such spindle 2 and in a position coaxially with respect to such spindle a waste yarn take-up member 7, here shown formed as a waste cone.
Continuing, it will be observed that a stationary cover member 9, for instance in the form of a cover plate, is disposed at the same height as an upper boundary or upper extent 8 of the whorl flange 5. This stationary cover member 9 bears upon supports 10, only one of which has been conveniently illustrated in FIG. 1, these supports 10 being mounted on the spindle rail 1. Further, this cover member 9 is provided with a concentric opening 11 for each spindle 2, the relevant spindle protruding through such associated opening 11. Each such opening 11 leaves a certainclearance with respect to the maximum outside circumference of the upper flange 5.
Now a ring 13 having a traveller 14 (FIG. 1) is mounted at a ring holder 12 which for reasons of clarity in illustration has only been conveniently depicted in FIG. 2. The incoming or delivered thread 15 passes through the traveller 14 towards the waste cone 7. A jacket or envelope member 17 is secured by means of angle supports 16 to the cover plate 9. This jacket or envelope member 17 extends vertically upward from the cover plate 9 and has a lower rim 18 extending along the opening 11 at the same height as a base portion 19 of the waste cone 7, envelope 17 being positioned to extend concentrically about such waste cone 7 through an angle of about 180 for instance. An upper rim 20 of this envelope or jacket member 17 extends from a free end 21 of the lower jacket rim l8, and thus from the base 19 of the waste cone 7, ascending upwards to a height H throughout a circumferential length L, then descends to the other free end 21 of such jacket or envelope member 17 again until reaching the region of the base portion 19 of the waste cone 7. This upper rim 20 of the jacket or envelope member 17 forms a thread guide member for the thread 15 which passes onto the waste cone 7.
Now in the arrangement depicted in FIG. 1 the traveller ring 13 has been illustrated in a lowered stationary position with regard to the tube 6. The inventive apparatus and in particular the thread guide member 20 functions as follows: if the spindle 2 and the waste cone 7 rotate about the longitudinal axis A in the direction indicated by the arrow B, then, the thread 15 passes from the traveller 14 onto the vwaste cone 7 and contacts the ascending portion 20' of the upper rim 20 which rises from the end 21' of the jacket or envelope member 17. This thread then moves upwardly along the ascending portion 20 of the upper rim 20, follows such upper rim 20 throughout the intermediately disposed rim portion 20 which extends over a length L and then subsequently again moves downwardly along the descending portion 20" of the upper rim 20 towards the opposite end 21 of such jacket member 17. During this process the thread 15 is traversed up and down with respect to the waste cone 7 owing to the action of the upper rim 20 functioning as the thread guide member. In other words, the thread 15 is traversed vertically and wound onto the waste cone 7 in a regular or orderly arrangement in the form of a thread bunch or package 22.
The height H of the guide member, i.e. the maximum spacing of the upper rim 20 from the base 19, is disposed lower than the upper extent or boundary portion 7 of the waste cone 7, as particularly well illustrated in FIG. 2, so that the stroke with which the thread is traversed does not exceed the upper boundary 7 of the waste cone 7. The lowest point of the upper rim 20 must be located at a height which is lower than the yarn path corresponding to the lowest position of the ring holder, so that the thread 15 can engage with the ascending portion of the upper rim 20 and thus can be traversed. The guide member embodying the upper rim 20 is arranged such that it is located within the lowered twisting ring 13. The spacing of the guide member from the twisting ring must be large enough to ensure that the traveller has sufficient space with regard to the thread guide member. The spacing of the thread guide member from the waste cone 7 depends upon the thickness of the thread bunch or package 22 which is to be wound onto the waste cone 7. The jacket or envelope member 17 can be fabricated from sheet metal or from another suitable material. In order to increase the wear resistance and for promoting disturbance-free guiding of the thread the guide member itself can be hardened, chrome-plated and/0r polished and, for instance, can be formed of steel or ceramic.
It is within the contemplation of this invention to provide modified constructions of the guide member for use, for instance, in the arrangement of draw-twisting spindle of FIG. 1. Thus, as shown in FIG. 3 there can be provided a modified construction of guide member 23 which, as viewed from the top, forms a straight line i.e. is of linear construction, and arranged parallel to a tangent line taken with regard to the waste cone 7. This guide member 23 can be mounted on the cover plate 9 by means of any suitable holder members 24.
A variant construction of thread guide member 25 has been depicted in FIG. 4 which, also here viewed from the top or in plan view, possesses a curved shape or configuration which does not extend concentrically around the waste cone 7.
In FIGS. 5 and 6 there is illustrated an alternative exemplary embodiment consisting of a guide member 26 comprising a jacket or envelope 27 which completely surrounds the waste cone 7. This jacket or envelope 27, depicted in development view in FIG. 6, is provided with guide member sections or portions 26a and 26a arranged at the same height as well as with the lower guide member sections or portions 26b' and 26b, likewise arranged at the same height, and each such section extends through an angle less than 360 about the waste cone 7. The thread 15, which has not been particularly shown in FIG. 5, during a complete cycle about the twisting ring 13 will be lifted twice and also lope or'jacket 28, as shown in development view in FIG. 8, possesses a trapezoidal-shaped configuration, and the short upper parallel rim 29 is here employed as the thread guide member.
Finally, in FIGS. 9 and there are illustrated two further constructional exemplary embodiments of thread guide members consisting of a wire loop 30 and 31 respectively. The wire loop 30 for the embodiment of thread guide member of FIG. 9 forms an arc with respect to the cover plate 9, its free ends 32 being spotwelded to the cover plate member 9, as shown. As far as the wire loop 31 for the embodiment depicted in FIG. 10 it will be recognized that one end 33 is spotwelded to the cover plate 9, this loop 31 extending freely to itsother end 33.
Although the guide members 20, 23, 26, 29 and 30, depicted in FIGS. 1 through 9 inclusive, can be readily used without being exchanged both for the production of S-twisted or Z-twisted thread, the guide member 31 depicted in FIG. 10 is only applicable for use for one sense of thread twisting. The geometric configuration of the guide member can be freely selected, as particu larly well evidenced by the constructional forms thereof especially depicted in FIGS. 5 and 8 through 10. The length L (FIG. 2) of the relevant guide member section must be shorter than the full circumference of the waste yarn take-up member and can be reduced to a value of zero (FIG. 9), so that the thread is traversed for instance at least once during one revolution. This length L can depend upon the thread denier, the rotational speed of the spindle, the delivery speed at which the thread is to be taken-up, the traveller speed and/or the thread tension. At low thread tension the length L is preferably chosen to be large and at high thread tensions preferably chosen to be small.
One of the primary advantages of the inventive apparatus resides in the fact that the thread can be traversed and wound onto the waste yarn take-up member in a regular or orderly arrangement without resorting to the use of any additional traversing motion control for the ring rail. Thus, it is not only possible to facilitate the withdrawal or removal of the waste material from the waste yarn take-up member, but also the capacity of such waste yarn take-up member can be fully utilized. A further advantage resides in the utmost simplicity of the apparatus containing no moving parts.
While there is shown and described present preferred embodiments of the invention, it is to be distinctly understood that the invention is not limited thereto but may be otherwise variously embodied and practiced within the scope of the following claims. Accordingly,
What is claimed is:
II. An apparatus for winding not normally drawn thread material onto a waste yarn take-up member of a draw-twisting spindle, comprising a spindle, a tube placed upon such spindle, a waste yarn take-up member arranged beneath said tube, a twisting ring cooperable with said spindle and capable of being lowered into a stationary position with respect to said yarn takeup member, said waste yarn take-up member incorporating an upper boundary portion and a base, means defining a stationary guide member for the thread to be wound onto said waste yarn take-up member arranged below said upper boundary portion of said waste yarn take-up member, said stationary guide member ascending upwardly to a height above said base of said waste yarn take-up member and extending externally of said waste yarn take-up member along a portion of the circumference thereof, said ascending stationary thread guide member being positioned so as to allow the thread to be moved upwardly therealong and traversed up and down with respect to said waste yarn take-up member during a cycle about the twisting ring.
2. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said thread guide member comprises ascending and descending thread guide portions.
3. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said thread guide member, viewed in plan view, defines a straight line extending externally of the outer circumference of said waste yarn takeup member and in a direction substantially parallel with regard to a tangent taken at said waste yarn take-up member.
4. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said thread guide member extends in a plane which is substantially parallel to a plane taken through said base of said waste yarn take-up member.
5. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said thread guide member extends in a plane which is inclinedwith regard to a plane containing the base of said waste yarn take-up member.
6. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said thread guide member extends in a curved configuration about said waste yarn take-up member.
7. The apparatus as defined in claim 6, wherein said thread guide member extends substantially concentrically about said waste yarn take-up member.
8. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said means defining said thread guide member comprises a wire.
9. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said means defining said thread guide member comprises an upper rim of a plate member.
10. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said means defining said thread guide member comprises an upper rim of an envelope member at least partially surrounding said waste yarn take-up member.
11. The apparatus as defined in claim 10, wherein said envelope member, viewed in development, forms a trapezoid, the shorter parallel edge of which defines a portion of said upper rim.
12. The apparatus as defined in claim 10, wherein said envelope member completely surrounds said waste yarn take-up member.
13. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said means defining said thread guide member comprises an upper rim of an envelope member which completely surrounds said waste yarn take-up member, said upper rim of said envelope member including at least one thread guide section disposed at the greatest distance above said base of said waste yarn take-up member.
14. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said means defining said thread guide member comprises an envelope member having ascending and descending portions.
15. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said thread guide member comprises an ascending thread guide portion extending upwardly to said height above said base of said waste yarn take-up member and a thread guide section extending in said height above said base in a plane which is substantially parallel to a plane taken through said base, said thread guide section extending throughout a circumferential length which is shorter than the circumference of the waste yarn takeup member.
16. An apparatus for winding not normally drawn thread material onto a waste yarn take-up member of a draw-twisting spindle, comprising a spindle, a tube placed upon such spindle, a waste yarn take-up member arranged beneath said tube, a twisting ring cooperable with said spindle and capable of being lowered into a stationary position with respect to said waste yarn take-up member, said waste yarn take-up member incorporating an upper boundary portion and a base, means defining a stationary guide member for the thread to be wound onto said waste yarn take-up member arranged below said upper boundary portion of said waste take-up member, said stationary guide member ascending upwardly to a height above said base of said waste yarn take-up member and extending externally of said waste yarn take-up member along a portion of the circumference thereof, the lowest point of the ascending thread guide member being located at a height which is lower than the path of the thread to be wound onto the waste yarn take-up member, so as to allow the thread to be engaged with said ascending thread guide member and moved upwardly therealong for traversing the thread up and down with respect to said waste yarn take-up member during a cycle about the twisting ring. k

Claims (16)

1. An apparatus for winding not normally drawn thread material onto a waste yarn take-up member of a draw-twisting spindle, comprising a spindle, a tube placed upon such spindle, a waste yarn take-up member arranged beneath said tube, a twisting ring cooperable with said spindle and capable of being lowered into a stationary position with respect to said waste yarn take-up member, said waste yarn take-up member incorporating an upper boundary portion and a base, means defining a stationary guide member for the thread to be wound onto said waste yarn take-up member arranged below said upper boundary portion of said waste yarn take-up member, said stationary guide member ascending upwardly to a height above said base of said waste yarn take-up member and extending externally of said waste yarn take-up member along a portion of the circumference thereof, said ascending stationary thread guide member being positioned so as to allow the thread to be moved upwardly therealong and traversed up and down with respect to said waste yarn take-up member during a cycle about the twisting ring.
2. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said thread guide member comprises ascending and descending tHread guide portions.
3. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said thread guide member, viewed in plan view, defines a straight line extending externally of the outer circumference of said waste yarn take-up member and in a direction substantially parallel with regard to a tangent taken at said waste yarn take-up member.
4. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said thread guide member extends in a plane which is substantially parallel to a plane taken through said base of said waste yarn take-up member.
5. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said thread guide member extends in a plane which is inclined with regard to a plane containing the base of said waste yarn take-up member.
6. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said thread guide member extends in a curved configuration about said waste yarn take-up member.
7. The apparatus as defined in claim 6, wherein said thread guide member extends substantially concentrically about said waste yarn take-up member.
8. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said means defining said thread guide member comprises a wire.
9. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said means defining said thread guide member comprises an upper rim of a plate member.
10. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said means defining said thread guide member comprises an upper rim of an envelope member at least partially surrounding said waste yarn take-up member.
11. The apparatus as defined in claim 10, wherein said envelope member, viewed in development, forms a trapezoid, the shorter parallel edge of which defines a portion of said upper rim.
12. The apparatus as defined in claim 10, wherein said envelope member completely surrounds said waste yarn take-up member.
13. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said means defining said thread guide member comprises an upper rim of an envelope member which completely surrounds said waste yarn take-up member, said upper rim of said envelope member including at least one thread guide section disposed at the greatest distance above said base of said waste yarn take-up member.
14. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said means defining said thread guide member comprises an envelope member having ascending and descending portions.
15. The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said thread guide member comprises an ascending thread guide portion extending upwardly to said height above said base of said waste yarn take-up member and a thread guide section extending in said height above said base in a plane which is substantially parallel to a plane taken through said base, said thread guide section extending throughout a circumferential length which is shorter than the circumference of the waste yarn take-up member.
16. An apparatus for winding not normally drawn thread material onto a waste yarn take-up member of a draw-twisting spindle, comprising a spindle, a tube placed upon such spindle, a waste yarn take-up member arranged beneath said tube, a twisting ring cooperable with said spindle and capable of being lowered into a stationary position with respect to said waste yarn take-up member, said waste yarn take-up member incorporating an upper boundary portion and a base, means defining a stationary guide member for the thread to be wound onto said waste yarn take-up member arranged below said upper boundary portion of said waste take-up member, said stationary guide member ascending upwardly to a height above said base of said waste yarn take-up member and extending externally of said waste yarn take-up member along a portion of the circumference thereof, the lowest point of the ascending thread guide member being located at a height which is lower than the path of the thread to be wound onto the waste yarn take-up member, so as to allow the thread to be engaged with said ascending thread guide member and moved upwardly therealong for traversing the thread up and down with respect to said waste yarn take-up membeR during a cycle about the twisting ring.
