Abstract

620,368. Twisting-apparatus for imparting two twists per revolution. FANE, G. W. R., and FANE, ENGINEERING DESIGNS, Ltd. Jan. 16, 1947, No. 1489. [Class 120 (ii)] Double-twist spindle apparatus which includes a weighted bobbin carrier 1 freely mounted on a live hollow spindle 5, slotted to permit withdrawal of yarn, has a one-piece cup 8 surrounding the lower end of the bobbin carrier 1, the cup 8 being recessed on its lower face, as at 14, to accommodate a yarn guide washer 15. The cup 8 is, preferably, an aluminium casting and the bobbin carrier 1 is, preferably, of moulded synthetic resin and is held stationary on the spindle 5 by means of a lead weight 12, the spindle being driven by a whorl 6 slotted at 7. The cup 8 fits tightly on and rotates with a sleeve 16, slotted at 17 for passage of the yarn. A foot-step bearing 9 supports the spindle 5 at an angle to the vertical. Yarn withdrawn from a bobbin 2 is passed through the eyelet of a flyer 3, rotatable on a hollow cap 4 pressed into the top of the bobbin 2, down through the cap 4, spindle 5, slot 17 and slot 7.to a storage groove 21, from which it is passed, as a balloon, to a separate collector. The flyer bearing 20 may comprise oil-less bushes.
