Abstract
<PICT:0761772/III/1> <PICT:0761772/III/2> A paint roller comprises a supporting structure having means adjacent each of its ends for supporting it on a rod of a handle, a substantially rigid sleeve detachably mounted on the supporting structure and having a paint-receiving material rigidly secured on it, and means connected to the suporting structure and positioned one at each end of the sleeve to prevent axial movement thereof relative to the supporting structure. As shown, the supporting structure comprises a cylinder 10 mounted between end closure members 13, 14 which support it on a rod 17 extending from a handle 15 and are located by split pins 31. A rigid sleeve 30 made, e.g. of tinplate or aluminium, has paint-receiving material 29, e.g. lambswool, secured to it by adhesive and is mounted on the cylinder 10 and retained between flanges 27, 28 on the members 13, 14. The members 13, 14 may removably engage the cylinder 10 by screw-threads, as shown, or they may be lever-operated, or the cylinder 10 may be moulded in one piece with one end 13 closed. As shown in Fig. 3, the sleeve 30 may be formed with an inturned flange 33 at one end, the flange being gripped between the end of the cylinder 10 and flange 27 on the closure member 13.
