Abstract

886,648. Moulding resin sheets by bending. FORMICA INTERNATIONAL Ltd. Feb. 25, 1959 [Nov. 11, 1958], No. 6596/59. Class 87(2). A sheet of e.g. thermosetting resin reinforced with paper, is bent by clamping it against an internally heated mandrel 1 by means of a clamping member 25, swinging a roller 2 about the mandrel to bend the sheet, and holding the roller on the sheet, while it is sprayed with water. The member 25 is operated by a handle 20 through a linkage 22, 23. The roller 2 is swung by a handle 4, and is simultaneously forced against the sheet by a member 10. In a modification, Fig. 5, a sheet is placed over two heated mandrels 31, 31<SP>1</SP>, members 52 are pressed against the sheet, and plates B, B<SP>1</SP> are rotated about A, A<SP>1</SP> to cause the rollers 32, 321 to form it around the mandrels. The sheet is then cooled by jets of water which runs off into a trough V.
