Abstract

<PICT:0921544/IV(a)/1> <PICT:0921544/IV(a)/2> A device for applying paste to wall paper comprises a support 1, 2 on which is a trough 7 to contain paste, a pasting roller 8 dipping into the paste, guide means 9 and 10 arranged on each side of the pasting roller, at least one of the guide means being supported in L-shaped slots the inner arm of which extends towards the pasting roller, and paste spreading means 18 positioned adjacent the pasting roller and adjustable towards and away from the periphery thereof. The guide means 9 and 10 are preferably rollers having stub axles 9a and 10a located in L-shaped slots 5 the lower arms of which have a restriction 11 past which the stub axles have to be forced. The spreading means is preferably a rod 19 carried by levers 20 pivoted at 23 to the ends of the trough. The trough has a lug 6 at each end which fit corresponding slots 3 in the ends 2 of the support means and the pasting roller is provided at its ends with spindles which rest in bearings in lugs 6. The pasting roller 8 consists of a light metal or wooden core 8a and a sleeve 8b of resilient material-foam rubber or foam synthetic plastic material. The roll of paper to be pasted is supported on a spool 13 the spindle of which rests in U-shaped lugs on the inside of the walls 2. The spool 13 has movable end flanges to adjust its length for different widths of papers. In operation paper is pulled from spool 13 through the pasting apparatus as indicated in Fig. 4.
