Abstract

671,967. Variable-speed gears. AVELING- BARFORD, Ltd., and WILCOCK, C. M. Aug. 30, 1950 [Sept. 20, 1949], No. 24141/49. Class 80 (ii). On each of the shafts A, B and C of a hydraulically-operated change-speed and reversing gear, a double-coned inner clutching member 1 may be brought into frictional engagement with either of two outer clutching members 2, 3 normally free to rotate on the shafts, as described in Specification 671,964. Clutch gears 4, 5, 11, 12, 16, 17 are formed integrally with the outer members 2, 3 and may thereby be clutched for rotation with the shafts. Gears 6, 7 fast on a driving shaft 8 mesh with the clutch gears 4, 5 on shaft A, which has fixed to it gears 13, 15. The gear 13 meshes directly with the clutch gear 11 on shaft B, while the gear 15 meshes with a. reversing idler 14 which in turn meshes with the clutch gear 12. Similarly, gears 18, 19 fast on shaft B mesh with the clutch gears 16, 17 on shaft C; shaft C carries an output gear 20.
