Abstract

524,855. Change-speed gearing. GRIST, G. Feb. 22, 1939, No. 5931. [Class 80 (ii)] In a change-speed gear, shafts 28 carrying clutch members 26 are rotated by sprockets 66 engaging a driving chain. Associated clutch members 20, 22, 24 rotate sprockets 60, 62, 64 engaging a driven chain. The clutches are engaged by springs when released selectively by a sliding bar 40. By wrapping the chain inside and outside the sprockets 60, 62, 64 two forward and one reverse speed may be obtained. The sprockets may be directly geared.
