Abstract

613,826. Variable-speed gearing. SMITH, R. July 19, 1945, No. 18555. [Class 80 (ii)] In a variable-speed gear, crown-wheels 21, 22 on driving and driven shafts 13, 15 are connected through pinions 23, 24 on a carrier adapted to be driven by an annulus 26 at a variable speed from an auxiliary drive 16, 17 and a variable-speed gear 20 of the kind described in Specification 592,761. In one modification, the variable-speed gear 20 may be in shaft 13, and in another, the crown-wheel 22 may be driven at variable speeds from the auxiliary drive instead of the carrier, the final drive being taken from the planets. Spur gearing may be used instead of bevel.
