Abstract
608,672. Valves actuated by rotary motors. TRIGGS, W. W. (Specialties Development Corporation). Jan. 9, 1946, No. 765. [Class 135] [Also in Groups XXI, XXVIII and XXXIII] A selector valve for closing the air intake of an air injector (see Group XXVIII) in the event of the intake being submerged as might occur since the apparatus is used for inflating flotation devices (see Groups XXI and XXXIII) comprises a disc 25, Fig. 2, housing a plurality of ports 27, Fig. 3, in register with ports 12 in a partition 7 and controlled by gates 28 slidably mounted in guideways 29. The disc is fixed to a shaft 26 driven by an inducing fluid activated rotor 33<1>, and the gates 28 normally held closed by leaf-springs 30 are opened by centrifugal force on starting the injector. A second rotor 33, fixed to the shaft 26 retards the latter sufficiently to allow the gates 28 to close in the event of the injector intake being submerged. In a modification the valve may be a cork-ball which when floated closes an inlet port in a reverse bend at the upper end of a vertical tube, the lower end of which is connected to the injector intake.
