Abstract
885,873. Pumps. SULZER FRERES S. A. Aug. 26, 1960 [Oct. 26, 1959 ; Dec. 31, 1959] No. 29581/60. Class 102(1) [Also in Group XXIX] The air in an expansion chamber 3 is replenished from a vessel 7 which is connected to the expansion chamber through a valve 6 and to the atmosphere through a valve 8 which when the valve 6 is closed allows liquid to drain from the vessel 7 which then fills with air. Closing valve 8 and opening valve 6 allows water to flow into the vessel 7 to displace the air to the chamber 3 if the liquid level is above the pipe 5. Modified valve and valve actuating means are described. A further vessel may be provided in parallel with the vessel 7. The operation of the valves may be electrically linked with the motor driving the pump.
