Abstract

608,205. Spray carburetters. DOUGLAS (KINGSWOOD), Ltd., McKELVIE, K., and HALLIDAY, G. F. Feb. 18, 1946, No. 5071. [Class 7 (iii)] Heavy fuel, e.g. paraffin, supplied from a float-chamber 31 to an emulsifying nozzle 30, spraying into air entering through a filter 29, is vapourised in an annular chamber 26 in the exhaust pipe 19 and delivered to a nozzle 16 in a Venturi 13 in the intake pipe 11, and when the throttle valve 12 is closed for starting or idling a hole 62 in the hollow valve spindle communicates with a petrol nozzle supplied from a float-chamber 50. The petrol sprays into air entering through a passage 59 and the petrol-air mixture enters the pipe 11 through a hole 63 in the valve spindle 60 on the engine side of the valve 12. A second valve 70, actuated in conjunction with the throttle valve 12 through a link, may be provided, and the light and heavy fuel nozzles contain manual adjusting screws. In a modification, Fig. 4, the light fuel is controlled by a spring-pressed piston valve 86 operated by a cam 88 on the throttle valve 12. Petrol is supplied to a well 80 through an idling jet 81 controlled by a screw 55a, and flows through a jet 82 into a chamber 87 supplied with air through a passage 85, the mixture being delivered through a slot 89 when the valve 12 is closed.
