[Class 7 (iii)] An emulsion of fuel and air is admitted at 5 to the throat of a venturi 1 admitting part of the air supply from a passage 2 and opening into the main air supply passage 3, the admission of air to the passage 3 being controlled by a hand-actuated throttle valve 4 and a valve or valves for controlling the amount of fuel supplied to the passage 5 being actuated from the throttle valve 4. As shown, fuel from a float chamber 7 is supplied by a passage 10 and submerged jet 12 to a chamber 17 open to the atmosphere at 18, and the resulting emulsion passes through holes 21, 22, an annular space 23, an annular chamber 20 and the passage 5 to the spraying orifice. The chamber 20 is open to the atmosphere through boles 24 and is formed around the tapering sides of a plunger 19 actuated from the throttle 4 bv means of a cam 26 and lever 27. A second spraying orifice 6 is supplied from the passage 10 through an orifice 11, controlled by a needle valve 13 actuated by the lever 27, and through holes 15 to the annular space around a sleeve 16. The lever 27 is pivoted on an eccentric 28 adjustable by an arm 29 to vary the proportion of fuel to air when the throttle 4 is stationary. A supercharger may compress the air admitted to the carburetter or the mixture leaving the carburetter.
