Abstract
734,902. Spray carburetters. GORDON J. A., and HODGKISS, S. J. July 22, 1954 [July 22, 1953 ; Nov. 12, 1953]. Nos. 20315/53 and 31328/53. Class 7(3). A carburetter in which fuel air mixture is drawn into the induction manifold by the suction of the engine through a valve operated by the depression in the manifold a needle valve being attached to the firstmentioned valve to control the flow of petrol or other fuel through a jet orifice to mix with air passing through the valve and around the jet orifice, comprises a housing for the fuel air mixture supply valve carrying the needle valve for controlling the jet orifice, the movement of the valve and needle being adjusted by a stop screwing into a guide for the valve spindle. Air enters through inlets A<SP>5</SP> and fuel through a nozzle C and mixture is drawn past a suction actuated valve B and a butterfly valve A<SP>2</SP> into the induction pipe. As shown the valve B carries a fuel control needle valve b<SP>2</SP>. An adjustable stop B2 is carried in the adjustable guide B<SP>1</SP> of the valve B. The valve B may be raised at starting by means of a rod d operated by a lever D. Additional fuel for starting may be supplied through a pipe C<SP>3</SP> The needle may be adjusted axially with respect to the valve. The fuel is supplied either by gravity or by means of a pump. In a modification for use with heavy fuel, Fig. 4, petrol may be supplied to mix with air in the throat of a venturi e. A stop valve may cut off the venturi passage during running on heavy oil.
