Abstract

563,159. Spray carburetters. WATSON, G. W. April 21, 1943, No. 6419. [Class 7 (iii)] Fuel supplied by a pump to an inlet 13 is controlled by a needle valve 15 disposed in an aperture in the side of a mixing chamber 1 between an air inlet 3 and a throttle valve 5, the throttle valve 5 being actuated through an arm 6, link 7 and a bell-crank lever 8, one arm of which passes through a slot 16a in a sleeve 16 carrying the fuel needle valve 15. Closing movement of the lever 8 effects corresponding movement of the needle valve 15 through a spring 19 while opening movement brings the lever into contact with an abutment 18 in the sleeve to open the valve positively, the arrangement permitting the valve to be opened independently for starting purposes on pulling a Bowden wire 20 attached to the outer end of the sleeve 16. A throttle byepass 21 permits the rich starting mixture to pass to the engine. The end of the lever 8 abuts against a screw 23 on the carburetter body to determine the setting of the needle valve 15 and the lever 8 engages the link 7 through a spring-pressed sliding block 25 disposed between adjustable stops 24, 31 on the link. A baffle plate 4 covers the air inlet 3.
