[Class 78(v).] A scraper hoist winch with two or more axially aligned drums 13, 14, 15 which are driven from a common driving motor each by its own planetary gear, said planetary gear containing an outer wheel 27 which can be arrested by braking to obtain are. versal in the direction of drive of the drum, wherein each of said drums 13 with its separate planetary gear is mounted by means of a separate shaft 10 in a separate cover 7 so that the drums can be assembled as standardised units in an arbitrary number to form the winch. In the Figure each unit consists of a drum 13 driven around a shaft 10 by planet wheels 19; 20 from a sun wheel 16 fixed on the shaft; an internally-toothed wheel 27 rotating on a disc 29 and adapted to be braked; side discs 37, 35 and a cover 7. The shaft 10 is driven from a driving shaft 6 which slides into it, and the two shafts are joined by a key or shoulder to form a single shaft. When the drum is braked on a surface 31, its speed is reduced, and when braked on the wheel surface. 27 its direction is changed. The drum 14 fits the drum 13 in a similar way.
