Abstract

1316351 Transmission disc brakes DAVID BROWN TRACTORS Ltd 19 April 1971 [28 Feb 1970] 9788/70 Headings F2E and F2Q A transmission including an input member, an output member and a non-rotatable torque reaction member coaxial with one another, the input and output members being rotatable simultaneously at different speeds at all times during rotation, has braking means comprising two mutually engageable parts, one drivably connected to the input member, and the other to the output member. An input shaft 10 with a sun wheel 13 of an epicyclic gear train carries friction plates 28 on splines 29, and the coacting friction plates 25 are carried in splines 26 in a housing 22 bolted to a planet wheel carrier 19, output shaft 16 and flange 18. An annular hydraulic piston 31 carried in housing 22 actuates the brake. Vibrations set up in the braking parts are damped by bearings 17, 23 and are not transmitted to the transmission housing 11, 12. A ring gear 14 of the epicyclic gear train is fixed to the housing 11, 12, and therefore, the reduction of relative rotation of the input to output to zero, results in the stopping of the input and output. The brake can be alternatively actuated by pneumatic, electrical or mechanical means. The transmission is used in a tractor, one for each driving wheel.
