[Class 80 (iii)] In a screw-and-nut mechanism which can be quickly disconnected to provide for a rapid adjustment when required, such as in a slow-running carburetter control of an I.C. engine, a rotatable control member 7 with a knob 8 is rotated to move the inner member 10 of a Bowden cable longitudinally by the engagement of a ball 12 carried by the member 7 in a thread formed by an open-coiled spring 5 arranged in a helical groove 4 in an outer fixed casing 1. The ball 12 is located in a lateral hole 11 in the member 7 which has an axial bore to receive a rod 13, the end of which has a flat 13a for maintaining the ball in engagement with the thread and a recess 17 for receiving the ball when the rod is moved by a button 14 against a spring 16 to disengage it from the thread to enable the member 7 to be moved longitudinally for a rapid adjustment.
