608,009. Inserting screws and screwed bushes. AIRCRAFT SCREW PRODUCTS, CO., Inc. Feb. 14, 1946, No. 4596. Convention date, March 16, 1945. Addition to 583,325. [Class 83 (iii)] In a tool for driving a threaded element such as screw or wire coil insert into a threaded boss, in which the driver is disengaged from the power shaft on moving axially beyond a fixed limit, means are provided for shifting the driver axially from the outside of the tool while leaving it free to rotate. The outer fixed shell 2 is fitted with a ring 25 having a U- shaped member 27 projecting through a slot 31 in the shell and engaging a second ring 32 which rotates with the driver 16, being connected thereto by a pin 24 sliding in open slots 22 in the hollow shaft 18, the end surfaces 23 of which are inclined or helically curved to facilitate re-engagement of the pin therewith. By these means the driver can be lifted to allow an insert to be charged into a shoe 12 the end of which may be screw-threaded to prewind the insert. The shoe is formed on the end of an adjustable telescopic part 3 of the shell.
