Abstract

A fuel oil composition consists essentially of a small proportion of an additive dissolved in a base oil, the additive being a chlorinated mineral wax and the base oil being a petroleum fuel oil which contains at least a substantial proportion (e.g. 20-80%) of a distillation residue. The additive may be a chlorinated microcrystalline petroleum wax, e.g. as is obtained by chlorinating bright stock slack wax or single-stage solvent-recrystallized bright stock slack wax. The base oil may be a blend of gas oil with either vacuum or atmospheric residue.
