Abstract

537,025. Extra-air admission valves ; starting. C. A. V., Ltd., and NICOLLS, W. E. W. Dec. 4, 1939, No. 31384. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (v)] In an engine in which an air-gas mixture is ignited by the injection of oil fuel and oil fuel is used alone under idling conditions, an auxiliary air-a,dmission spring-loaded poppet-valve f is located in the induction pipe b and is in use both during idling, to supply air for the combustion of the liquid fuel, and to prevent high vacuum upon sudden closure of the throttle c when the engine is running at high speed. The valve f which is opened by the fall of pressure in the induction pipe, is located on the engine side of the throttle valve c which in its closed position cuts off the normal supply of airgas mixture.
