486,550. Hydro-mechanical combined gear devices. PRICKETT, T. C. Dec. 7, 1936, No. 33513. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] In order to assist an hydraulic coupling 7, 8 to pick up a heavy drive, as upon a Diesel locomotive, the rotor 8 of the coupling is adapted to be driven mechanically from a driving-shaft 1 by auxiliary planetary gearing in parallel with the coupling, the speed transmitted by which gearing being raised by braking drums 15, 16, 17 in that order. The auxiliary gearing comprises three planetary trains A, B, C, and the shaft 1 carries fast upon it sun gears 1A, 1B of the trains A and B in addition to the impeller 7 of the coupling. As shown, the rotor 8 carries an annulus 8A engaged by stepped planets 4 of the-leading train A. Alternatively, the rotor 8 may be connected for rotation with the planet-carrier 2 of the train A. A shaft 10 driven from the rotor 8 may be the driving-shaft of a pre-set main gearbox M.
