Abstract
670,940. Variable-speed gearing. JONES, J. July 12, 1950, No. 17399/50. Class 80 (ii). Gearing for motor vehicles varying automatically with load comprises two three-element epicyclic trains wherein the planet carriers 2, 10 are secured to the driving and driven shafts 1, 11 respectively, the sun wheel 4 of the first train is connected to the annulus 12 of the second. train, the annulus 5 of the first train is connected to the sun wheel 6 of the second train, and a hydraulic coupling 7, 8 is arranged between the members 4, 12 and 5, 6. Reverse rotation of the members 4, 12 may be prevented by a one-way detent, which may be releasable, and an auxiliary reversing-gear and clutch may be provided.
