420,609. Spray carburetters. BROWN, C., 19, Trinity Road, Birchfield, and AMAL, Ltd., Holford Works, Perry Barr, both in Birmingham. June 2, 1933, No. 16024. [Class 7 (iii)] To prevent backfiring through the carburetter, a delay-action device is connected to the throttle lever to control the speed of opening of the throttle valve 10. When the accelerator pedal 11 is depressed, a plunger 21 compresses a spring 18 in a sleeve 17 which, through a link 15, connected to a bell-crank lever 8, opens the throttle valve. The speed of opening is controlled by a calibrated orifice 6 through which fuel is forced from a cylinder 2 into a float chamber 3 by a piston 4 connected to the bell-crank lever 8. The fuel forced into the float chamber raises the liquid level and subjects the jets temporarily to a higher pressure, thereby assisting acceleration.
