Abstract

603,296. Spray carburetters. SOC. ANON. SOLEX. May 7, 1945, No. 11629. Convention date, July 11, 1941. [Class 7 (iii)] Fuel for enriching the combustible mixture during acceleration and under heavy load is fed through an auxiliary nozzle 13 controlled by a valve 15 actuated by two spring-loaded diaphragms 19, 20 of unequal areas. Suction near the throttle valve 2, which is conveyed to the space between the diaphragms by the pipe 21, keeps the valve 15 closed until opening of the throttle valve reduces the suction to a predetermined value. A small amount of fuel may flow continuously from chamber 10 through a calibrated orifice 17. An accelerator pump comprises a chamber 28 containing fuel sealed by a diaphragm 24, sudden opening of the throttle valve at low speeds causing a lever 25 to depress the diaphragm and force additional fuel through the valve 15 and orifice 17. A rod 38 fixed to the diaphragm 24 opens the valve 15 at the end of the pump delivery stroke. The lever 25 is adjustably connected to the throttle valve by a rod 30 fitted with a transverse pin 36 and sliding in a sleeve 32 with slots 34 of various lengths, a spring 37 allowing lost motion if the pump is actuated at high speeds with the valve 15 held closed. Specification 531,778 is referred to.
