Abstract

405,222. Moulding concrete pipes. BARR, J. F., Killineer House, Drogheda, Co. Louth, Irish Free State. Sept. 22, 1933, No. 26173. [Class 87 (ii).] In apparatus for making concrete pipes or tubes of the kind in which the pipe or tube is spun by a core 3 rotated in a mould 10 and having helical vanes or ribs 3a on its circumference, the pipe or tube is constructed against the resistance of a hydraulic ram 5. The ram 5 carries a rotatable table 8 provided with four apertures over one of which the mould 10 is placed. The core 3, which is the same length as the mould, is carried by a shaft 2 rotated by a motor 4. For the purpose of feeding concrete to the mould, the shaft 2 is hollow and is provided at the lower end with perforations 2<a>. A second core 13 provided at the upper end with a collar-forming flange 13a is mounted above the core 3 and is carried by a shaft 12 driven from the shaft 2 by gear wheels 11, 11. In use, a mould 10 is placed over one of the apertures in the table 8, the table is rotated to bring the mould under the core 3, and the ram is actuated to raise the mould until the ribs or vanes 3a are at the lower part of the mould. Concrete is then admitted to the mould and the core 3 rotated, the table being forced down against the resistance of the ram as the concrete is compressed. When the formation of the pipe or tube body is completed, the table 8 is rotated to bring the mould containing the body beneath the core 13, a second mould being simultaneously brought beneath the core 3. The ram is then again raised and subsequently forced down during which movements a collar is formed on the already formed pipe or tube body by the flange 13a, and a second body is formed by the core 3. The table is then further rotated and the finished pipe or tube removed.
