Abstract

Cupping.-A tube &c. drawing bench in which a cupped metal blank 4 is drawn on a mandrel 5 through a series of dies 3 has the mandrel connected at 6 to a driving rack 2 actuated by a pinion 6<1> the mandrel being supported by a series of guides which are successively disengaged on their approaching the first drawing die. The guides may comprise members 8, Fig. 3, shaped to embrace the mandrel 5 and pivoted at 7 to the rack 2, the guides being controlled by fixed but adjustable guide rails 11. The guides 8 may be replaced by pivoted rollers which engage the mandrel and also run on the guide-rails 11.
