Abstract

951,564. Extracting tools. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. July 16, 1962, No. 27182/62. Heading B4C. [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for removing a tube bundle from a horizontal heat exchanger comprises a pallet P with two longitudinal I-beams 26, 27 which can be lifted into position by a crane and clamped to the heat exchanger by clamps 144, 146. A wheeled carriage 20 runs on the beams 26, 27 and is drawn therealong by cables 39, 41 of a drum 37 driven by a motor 35. With the pallet secured to the exchanger, Fig. 2, the carriage 20 is attached to the tube bundle by a chain 23 and the drum 37 is driven to withdraw the tubes. When the carriage 20 clears a cradle 19 as it withdraws the bundle the cradle is raised by an hydraulic jack 135 to act as a support for the other end of the tubes.
