Abstract
155,657. Smith, W. Sept. 25, 1919. Stream-cutting machines. - Relates to brickcutting machines of the type comprising a series of knives which are engaged by the moving column of clay and are constrained by guides to enter and leave the column vertically, and consists in the provision of double guides to obviate twisting of the knives, As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, a series of knives A are connected by links B, each blade A being secured to arms D furnished with rollers E engaging double guide-grooves a. The lower guide a is omitted at the upper part of the machine to permit the knives to be turned over by a cross-bar G engaging lugs g. The clay column passes over a roller m and platform L having a slotted portion N to allow the knives to pass completely through the column, the front part of the portion N being spring-retained. A take-off roller 0 is driven by a rack P, Fig. 9, reciprocated from any suitable part of the machine, engaging a pair of ratchet wheels Q. A modification of the machine is described in which the knives are connected by slotted wheels. Figs. 13 and 14 show a further modification in which the knives are connected to slides c engaging angular guides of the section shown in Fig. 13.
