398,062. Feeding-devices for granular &c. materials. ROTHSTEIN, A., 60, Kaiserstrasse, Leipsic, Germany. Dec. 3, 1932, No. 34302. Convention date, July 2. [Class 59.] Apparatus for removing ashes from the collecting hoppers 2 of boiler furnaces or other apparatus comprises a chamber 3 delivering on to a horizontal supporting surface 4 which forms the lower wall of a lateral outlet 6, this outlet being connected to an elbow pipe 7, 8, 10 in the bend 9 of which a water trap or seal is maintained by a jet 12. A Venturi 11 is fitted in the discharge limb of the bend 9. Fig. 1 shows the apparatus before discharge of the accumulated ash commences ; when discharge is to be effected, the jet 12 is turned on and owing to the production of a vacuum in the conduit 6, 7, 8 the ash is caused, as shown in Fig. 2, to move outwardly over the bend 13 and be forced out through the discharge pipe 10. The height of the inwardly projecting wall 14 of the chamber 3 is adjustable to enable different kinds of ash to be dealt with.
