Abstract

By aerating ascending column; systems; vacuum apparatus.-Liquid is raised through a pipe i to a chamber k partly by compressed air &c. admitted at the point o from a pipe m, and partly by a vacuum induced into the chamber k by the flow of liquid from a level a through a siphon c, d, e, the chamber k being open to the siphon through a pipe l and nozzle g. The air carried down by the falling liquid is compressed and separates in the chamber h, from which it passes through the pipe m to the point o. The spent liquid passes to the lower level b. Additional air may be drawn into the ascending liquid at a point q where the pressure of the air admitted at o has fallen slightly below atmospheric.
