[Class 111] In apparatus of the type comprising a helical track 1 into which sewage is delivered by a pipe 10 and from which solid matter falls direct into a chamber 4 while the liquid first adheres to the under surface of the track and then falls into a channel 8 leading to a settling-chamber 5, the wall 71 of the chamber 5 is made with a lip 12, projecting under the open centre of the track 1, so that a beaker for taking a sample of the liquid in the settling chamber can be passed down through the centre of the track. The settling chamber is divided into two parts by a curved baffle 11. Specifications 444,463 and 465,271 are referred to.
