Systems; vacuum apparatus.-Heavy oil or the like is raised by blowing air and steam into the pipe line at the intake 13 and sucking out the air from the discharge leg 3 by the action of a steam or other ejector 5 by-passed from the discharge leg at a point 6, situated well above the level to which the liquid could ascend in the discharge leg under the vacuum employed. Steam is supplied to the ends of the line by pipes 21. Fig. 4 shows the arrangement at the intake 13, with a steam jet 16 inside an air inlet 15 provided with adjustable admission openings 19.
