Abstract

4636. Jackson, J. D. July 24, 1912, [Convention date]. Washing.-Apparatus for purifying smoke, designed mainly for attachment to the chimneys or stove pipes of the ranges of restaurants but adapted to be built into ordinary chimney stacks, comprises a chamber 6 provided with an adjustable deflector 7 above the smoke inlet and with one or more spraying- devices having adjustable spreaders 9. The deflector 7 may be carried by a pivoted arm extending through the wall of the chamber but is preferably vertically adjustable as shown. Foul water from the chamber passes through a pipe 12 to a settling-tank 13 containing removable plates 14 provided with handles 17 and adapted to cause the water to take a zigzag course before overflowing into a pipe 15.
